The Reversal Of the Curse | Galatians 3:1 & Deuteronomy 28

Galatians 3:1 - “O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched (baskanen) you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified.”

The verb translated “bewitched” (baskainō) occurs only one other place in the Bible, Deuteronomy 28. It occurs in the curses for covenant breakers. In 28:54 Moses says, “The man who is the most tender and refined among you his eye shall be evil (baskainei) to his brother, to the wife he embraces, and to the last of the children whom he has left”

The one who does not keep the law will have his family broken up, brother will be evil to brother. The great irony that Paul is communicating is that it is precisely the ones in Galatia who are commending law keeping who are under this curse from Deuteronomy.
