Literary Structure of Revelation 1: 14-16
Head A His head and hair were white as white wool, white as snow;
Face B his eyes were like a flame of fire,
Limbs C his feet were like burnished bronze, refined as in a furnace
Voice X and his voice was like the sound of many waters
Limbs C' In his right hand he held seven stars,
Face B' and from his mouth came a sharp, two-edged sword,
Head A' and his face was like the sun shining with full force
(A structure of Victor Wilson's Divine Symmetries)
John organized the theophanic description around Jesus' voice because the whole book is a revelation "of Jesus Christ" (1:1). Jesus' has more speech than any other character in Revelation (Chapters 2-3). Out of Jesus' mouth will come a sword (19:15), an image of the sharp, piercingness of his words.
